The action is well driven even if not always with a sustained rhythm andif the reader can overcome the slight impression of naivetythe book could be read with some interest. If the characters had been more “real”, perhaps the rest of the book would have been more enticing. But somewhere along the way the story fizzled out for me.

The story is dark in places, sons paying for the sins of their fathers and sinning themselves, some quite graphic violence but it is a page turner that keeps you immersed, the characters are well developed, the style is good but I do wonder if it has lost a fraction in translation.
As a secret society, it could not continue to exist in Germany. But there is a traitor in the group who has ties to terrorist organizations back in the United States, and who is patiently awaiting the moment to strike. Also, I don’t think a single female character was truly believable in this book, from Paul’s martyr-like mom to the wannabe rebel Alys.
Then there is the girl, Alys—beautiful, headstrong, and the daughter of a wealthy Jewish industrialist. I’ve not read it yetbut it’s been on my TBR forever and now I don’t have to smudge my hardcover! Paul will get his chance, but it will cost him dearly.

He does not sell it, but the would-be buyer reveals an astounding story behind that mysterious object: Gomez-Jurado brings us a ripping good yarn that thrusts in the streets of Munich as Hitler and the Nazis come to power. This is not a bad book. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? Paul is obsessed with the father he never knew, convinced there is more to the story of his father’s death than what he’s been told. A novel of revenge, betrayal, and love, a good heir to Alexandre Dumas. I loved how this book started out with the mysterious rescue at sea. Antonia Scott es especial. Jurgen shows all the signs of being a sociopath.
In return for saving their lives, the leader of the group gives him an unusual medal that appears to combine Masonic symbols with things definitely unMasonic.

Podemos decir sin lugar a dudas que la idea que genera la novela es muy original, y que da pie para buenas situaciones que bien elaboradas crearian tension y enganche, pero este no es el caso en mi opinion.
