Very well put, Mike! So it sounds like you’re ruling out a Wisner-style, by-the-book Rocket Mass Heater because of space constraints.
We understand the basic principles for the masonry stove, but we’ve never used one or even seen one in use. It’s really all down to the inside surface area, pub7811 much heat is absorbed by the masonry, and the exhaust temp. I built a partial system in my back yard just to see if it was as easy as the book and websites said.
It would have been more cost effective to use pennies, ha ha! So far I have 3 days into it. There is a lot of mistakes, and it can be made more efficient, reliable, and not the least for diy – mutch easyer.

As with any given design the safety of the goov result will depend on the design as well as the execution gvo that design. Most use a dry kiln for their lumber. Usually those with high consumption tend to be dirtier albeit the fire may look better, but as you say yours are clean then they must have low consumption.
If I have any problems as I continue to test, I will report back.
