Absolved Book Review — Grady Hendrix
This is truly marital bliss, militia-style. There is but one answer for such effrontery; an involved concerned citizenry. And a companion book Events rush by, pushing us like rudder-less boats in a strong current to where we know not. It’s shaping up to be pretty awesome.
The first chapter of Absolved starts in media res, which is a fancy way of saying that Phil Gordon is being raided by ATF agents referred to throughout as “thugs”. What can this possibly have to do with you?

My concern is this. Like Hancock, however, the Flying Dutchman has the advantage of being a real American. The only flaw in their master plan was that their co-conspirator was an undercover FBI agent. My novel, like war, has its casualties. We still get to vote with our rifles. It was the kind of thing where you hold onto the seat for dear life, your legs fully extended and there’s this stabbing pain that convinces you your guts are being lanced open from the inside out.

Then he kind of proves their point by using said stockpile to blow his entire neighborhood to hell while shooting wounded ATF agents in the head.
Believe me, you mess with Winston County, Alabama, at your own peril. Frankly, I’m a klutz. It is an even-money bet as I write this whether the society will suffer an Absolved-like civil conflict or simply fall apart of accumulated self-inflicted stresses.
Vanverboegh, even with out a degree one can understand we are under attack at the fundamental level, just as Obama promised 5 days before his inauguration. Internet readers will note that there is less mind-numbing detail in the publication version of Absolved than in the Internet chapters.
